You are probably well aware that people can sell plasma for money, but did you know you can earn up to $300 or $400 per month?

Every facility pays a different amount, but the typical payout is $20-$50 per donation.  If you receive $50 each time and donate twice per week, you’d earn $400 per month selling plasma.

While it certainly isn’t enough to sustain a full-time living, selling blood can be a lucrative (and relatively easy) side hustle.

How to Qualify

To qualify to sell plasma, you must meet the following requirements:

Age: You must be at least 18 years old.  There is also an age limit that varies by collection center – elderly individuals are not eligible to give blood.

Health: You must be in good health and feeling well on the day you give plasma.

Size: You must weight at least 110 pounds.

Restrictions

You will likely be considered ineligible to sell plasma if you meet any of the following criteria:

  • You feel ill on the day of the donation.
  • You have received a piercing or tattoo within the past year.
  • You have certain diseases that are transmitted via blood, such as HIV or hepatitis.
  • You’ve had surgery recently (depending on the type of surgery).
  • Your iron, protein, or hemoglobin levels are too low.

How to Prepare

Prior to your donation appointment, make sure you are eating healthy foods that are rich in protein and iron so that you will not be considered ineligible on the basis of protein or iron deficiency.

Also, drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.  Hydrating properly will ensure that your veins are in good shape for donation.

What to Expect

Some plasma donors say that giving plasma is slightly more painful than giving whole blood; others say the two are comparable.

The needle will remain in your arm for the duration of the donation, which will last anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour and a half.

You may have slight bruising or tenderness at the injection site.  There is also a very small risk of infection.

You may feel dehydrated or tired afterward.  Make sure to drink plenty of water and eat healthy foods.

Why You Should Sell Plasma

Selling plasma is a relatively easy way to earn extra money each month.  You can earn up to $400 monthly and you don’t have to do any actual work.

All you need is some free time to sit in a chair, eat free cookies, and save lives.

Plasma donations are used to treat diseases such as primary immunodeficiency, hemophilia, and other bleeding disorders.

They can also be administered in cases of trauma, burn, and shock.

My Story

I recently received my first transfusion of FFP (fresh frozen plasma).  This occurred prior to surgery to prevent me from bleeding excessively during (or after) the operation.

I have a rare bleeding disorder called Factor V deficiency, which causes my blood to clot abnormally slowly.

I am so thankful to live in a time when blood transfusions are possible and safe.

If you’re on the fence about selling plasma, remember that your donations have an enormous impact.  It’s because of you that people with bleeding disorders can have surgery safely.

Your donation matters and it could save a life!

How to Find a Donation Center

Try simply googling “plasma donation centers near me”.  There are numerous helpful websites that you’ll find.

One example is Octapharma Plasma.  You can earn money selling plasma at one of their 80 sites across the U.S.

You will receive a prepaid debit card when you make a donation. First-time donors can earn hundreds of dollars after several donations.

Donors can also earn incentives, prizes, and bonuses throughout the year!

How Much Money Can You Really Make?

You’ll have to sell plasma relatively often if you want to earn a significant amount of money.  Remember that the more times you donate, the more lives you’re saving!

Selling plasma may not be a good way to make tons of money, but it’s one of the most meaningful side hustles out there.

Earn a little extra cash AND save lives.  It’s a win-win!
