Resources

Below is a list of my favorite resources for changing your thought patterns and transforming your life.

Side note: there are no affiliate links on this page – I am only sharing these resources with you because they’ve impacted my life so much and I know they will change your life too!

The Life Coach School Podcast

Brooke Castillo created the “self-coaching model” – a simple concept that shows you exactly how to identify how your thoughts are creating your emotions, the way you behave, and the results you’re getting in your life.  If you’ve tried therapy and you’ve been disappointed because you didn’t actually learn anything about HOW to change your thoughts, check out this podcast.

Better Than Happy Podcast

If you’re only going to listen to one podcast, make it this one. Jody Moore is an amazing teacher.  She is a student of Brooke Castillo’s and she teaches the same concepts that Brooke teaches in a way that really resonates with me.  Her podcast has helped me to drastically reduce my anxiety, increase my happiness, and most importantly, to have SO much more compassion for myself and other people.

Things Above Podcast

The title of this podcast comes from Colossians 3:2 – “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things”. During each episode, James Bryan Smith offers one uplifting, beautiful, and true “thought from above” for you to consider.

Social Dallas Podcast

Pastor Robert Madu often talks about how important it is for Christians to live with both grace and truth. Pastor Madu and his wife Taylor set an incredible example of how to treat others with love and grace – without leaving truth behind. This podcast has helped me to understand my faith and what it means to be a Christian in a new and insightful way.

Elevation Church Podcast

Pastor Steven Furtick has a way of relating biblical stories to our every day lives in a way that I’ve never seen a pastor do so well. This is another podcast that helps me to think differently and to understand my faith in a deeper way.

Self-Compassion by Kristin Neff (Book)

For 34 years of my life, I was a perfectionist who beat myself up constantly. While I’m still working on the perfectionism, I’m happy to say that I hardly ever beat myself up anymore. I never would’ve imagined this was even possible, and I have Kristin Nef and Jody Moore (mentioned above) to thank for it. If you’re a self-critical person, read this book. It’ll completely change the way you see yourself and the way you see other people…which just might change your entire life.

Bittersweet by Susan Cain (Book)

Susan Cain has a unique way of seeing the world, and I love how her books challenge us to consider perspectives that go against everything our society teaches us. In a culture full of toxic positivity, Cain’s book is a breath of fresh air as it encourages us to embrace sorrow, melancholy, and longing. This book will help you to see suffering in an entirely new way.

The Chosen

This series (which is available on Netflix) is a historical drama based on the life of Jesus and those who knew him. What I love about this series so much is that it brings the biblical characters to life – watching this has helped me to see Jesus and other people from the Bible as real human beings who had full lives. The Bible only shows us snippets of their lives, and watching this series helped me to see the biblical characters (particularly Jesus) in a new way.
